HS6

International subheading

Use six digits to find the US subdivisions. National digits supplied by an exporter may not be a US classification.

HTS8

US legal tariff provision

Eight digits identify the US legal rate line. Read its parents and the chapter notes before choosing it.

HTS10

US statistical reporting number

Ten digits identify the statistical reporting line used on entries. Its rate may be shown on the eight-digit parent.

USITC classification FAQ

Before treating a base rate as your import duty

Check Chapter 99, especially the relevant Subchapter III U.S. notes for Section 301 and Section 232, then review CBP trade-remedy guidance. Coverage can depend on more than the HS chapter or the country shipped from. The presence or absence of an endnote has no legal effect.

Questions this lookup can answer

Why does a ten-digit line have blank rates?

USITC often puts the tariff rate on the eight-digit legal provision and adds statistical children below it. The lookup identifies that parent when it displays inherited columns. A blank cell is never interpreted as zero.

Does a keyword match confirm my classification?

No. The general rules of interpretation and the relevant section, chapter and subheading notes govern classification. Compare the complete hierarchy and use CBP CROSS or request a binding ruling when needed.

Can I apply the Special column to any shipment from an FTA country?

Eligibility and a proper claim depend on the applicable program's general notes and the goods. This tool shows the published symbols and expressions without deciding eligibility.

Does this include every additional import charge?

No. Chapter 99 provisions must be checked separately; AD/CVD is not part of the ordinary HTS rate table. Use the official references and the shipment's entry date.

Methodology + sources +

Official sources and snapshot method

All official export rows are retained, including unnumbered description levels. Ten-digit rows with entirely blank duty columns display the complete rate tuple of their matching eight-digit legal ancestor, with that source identified. Units and footnotes remain as exported.

Code searches preserve every digit, including leading zeroes. Keyword searches include parent descriptions so lines named “Other” can be found. Partial English words can match longer words; a keyword match is a discovery aid and does not classify a product.

The USTR file is used by its official product-search page. It supplies action text rather than a versioned legal rate table, and labels its article descriptions unofficial. This tool preserves historical actions, duplicate code entries, scheduled changes and code-specific notes. It checks whether each code exists in the saved USITC edition.

The tools do not compute a combined duty, automatically grant a Special program, decide an exclusion or determine AD/CVD scope. Review the legal provisions and CBP instructions for your shipment. Every source link below is associated with the displayed source-check date.

29,861 HTS codes · 11,413 USTR search records · Sources checked 2026-10-14

Subject to CBP rulings. Classification, origin, exclusions and the entry date determine the treatment of a shipment.
